Who publishes this site
3D Adapt publishes practical guides for beginners and home hobbyists exploring filament 3D printing. Our researched guides appear under the 3D Adapt editorial byline. The process below explains how we use sources, compare products, and keep examples clear.
What we cover
We explain the steps between an idea and a finished print: choosing a machine, selecting a material, preparing a file, and diagnosing common problems. Our goal is to make the decisions easier to understand, including when buying another tool is unnecessary.
How we build our guides
Our current guides are researched explainers prepared with AI assistance for research, drafting, and site development. Technical claims are checked against linked manufacturer documentation and other primary sources. Readers can use the sources at the end of each guide to check the underlying instructions.
We separate three kinds of information:
- Published specifications: facts attributed to the manufacturer, with the relevant source linked.
- Practical interpretation: our explanation of how a feature or tradeoff may affect a beginner's decision.
- Worked examples: clearly labeled assumptions and arithmetic, such as the examples in our cost guide and calculator.
Product comparisons do not represent hands-on testing. We do not invent test results, scores, owner experiences, or price histories. Any future firsthand test should identify the machine, materials, settings, method, date, and limitations, alongside original evidence. Images labeled “Illustration” are AI-generated editorial scenes. They depict generic equipment and objects, not actual products we photographed or tested. Article captions identify these images; manufacturer specifications and compatibility tables remain the basis for our buying comparisons. We do not use generated imagery as evidence of print quality or product performance.
Dates, sources, and corrections
Articles show their original publication date and the date of a substantive revision. A later article update does not mean every product was retested or every specification was rechecked; a separate specification-check date is shown where relevant. Manufacturer instructions for your exact printer, build surface, and filament take precedence over a general guide.
When correcting a factual error, the affected passage and its source should be updated together. Changes that alter a buying recommendation or a technical procedure should also be explained in that article. Prices, availability, bundles, and regional specifications can change, so confirm them with the seller before ordering.
How links work
Some product links are affiliate links. Affected guides explain the commission relationship near their product recommendations. Read the affiliate disclosure for more.
Practical tools
Our free 3D printing tools help you estimate print costs, compare model dimensions with a build volume, and check PLA/PETG guidance for Prusa Smooth PEI, Textured, and Satin sheets. Each tool explains its scope and assumptions. Download the print log (CSV) to record settings, failures, and successful results. These are learning aids; example inputs are not printer test results.
Where to start
Read your first 3D print, step by step if you have a printer ready. If you are still choosing one, use our first-printer buying guide to narrow the decision.
