PLA on Prusa smooth PEI
Prusa recommends smooth PEI for PLA, particularly parts with a small contact area.
- Prepare the surface
- Clean the cold sheet with about 90% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and an unscented paper towel.
- Release layer
- A glue separation layer is not specified for standard PLA.
- Cool and remove
- Cool to room temperature, remove the sheet, and flex gently. Avoid tearing the PEI film.
- Sheet care
- Keep fingerprints and grease off the printing area.

Manufacturer listed means Prusa describes the combination as suitable. Listed with adhesion caveat highlights a specific limitation. Separation layer required is conditional guidance: for smooth PEI and PETG, use the protective layer and read the manufacturer’s warning.
These labels summarize published instructions, not our own print tests or a guarantee for every formulation and part geometry. A combination outside this finder is not evaluated, rather than automatically incompatible.
Use the current printer and filament profiles for bed and nozzle temperatures. This finder does not supply temperature settings. For prints with a large contact area or stubborn adhesion, review Prusa’s removal and separation-layer guidance before printing.

| Filament and sheet | Manufacturer guidance and sources | Preparation and protection | Cooling and removal |
|---|---|---|---|
| PLA Prusa smooth PEI |
Manufacturer listed Prusa recommends smooth PEI for PLA, particularly parts with a small contact area. |
Clean the cold sheet with about 90% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and an unscented paper towel. A glue separation layer is not specified for standard PLA. Keep fingerprints and grease off the printing area. |
Cool to room temperature, remove the sheet, and flex gently. Avoid tearing the PEI film. |
| PETG Prusa smooth PEI |
Separation layer required Prusa prefers textured or satin for PETG. Bare smooth PEI can bond too strongly and be damaged. |
If using smooth PEI anyway, follow Prusa’s cleaning instructions and apply a thin PVA glue-stick separation layer before printing. Glue is a protective release layer here, not simply an adhesion booster. Prusa advises applying PVA glue to a cold surface to help keep the layer thin. |
Cool to room temperature, remove the sheet, and flex gently. Avoid tearing the PEI film. |
| PLA Prusa textured powder-coated |
Listed with adhesion caveat PLA is supported. Prusa identifies smooth or satin as better for PLA adhesion; small parts may need a brim. |
Clean the cold sheet with about 90% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and an unscented paper towel. No PLA glue separation layer is specified in the linked sheet guidance. Never clean this coating with acetone or put the sheet in a freezer. |
Cool to room temperature; the print should release. Flex gently if needed; avoid metal scrapers. |
| PETG Prusa textured powder-coated |
Manufacturer listed Prusa specifically recommends the textured sheet for regular PETG printing. |
Clean the cold sheet with about 90% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and an unscented paper towel. No PETG glue separation layer is specified in the linked sheet guidance. Never clean this coating with acetone or put the sheet in a freezer. |
Cool to room temperature; the print should release. Flex gently if needed; avoid metal scrapers. |
| PLA Prusa satin powder-coated |
Manufacturer listed Prusa lists satin for PLA. Small parts may still need a brim. |
| PETG Prusa satin powder-coated |
Manufacturer listed Prusa identifies satin as suitable for PETG and recommends it over bare smooth PEI. |
